Why It's Funny When Other People Get Hurt

I like that these all have some humor in them instead of just 'yep... they died, just fyi'.

I think it is fun that they only display the full title and name of the one who delivered the killing blow, as far as adventurers are concenrned. At least, that's what I've noticed...

Other than that, some of these deathsights are really funny, and dying to the Pixie Queen reminds me of the good old days all those years ago when I first discovered Achaea...

I personally love the random deathsight messages that come up while playing in Achaea.

Sometimes deathsights crack me up. I think two of my personal favorites are when 1) There was a character called "himself". So anytime that "himself" died it was like Himself has been slain by the might of Lord Clementius, the Weaver. Annnd one that is much more recent is the fact that Tiamat got exterminated by Lady Artemis's crocodile.

Its always funny to see deathsights of people slain by rats.

Mmm the only reason I'd keep a brooch of Thoth would be to not miss out on deathsights even while I'm dead hehe.

and here, I thought seeing someone done in by the might of a butterfly was the height of hilarity.

I have always enjoyed the more humorous deathsights. Which dragon was it in achaea who was turned into a cookie and eaten by a god?

Seriously now, pet deaths, such as the puppy being run over in Cyrene as a consequence of naught but seeking his negligent owner prompt me to want to start an animal rights advocacy organization. I'm a bit emotional right now after reading that, so it's possible nothing will come of this, but I am inspired! The seed has been planted, Cyrene, get your act together!

Took place during the "Great Dream" a.k.a Anarchaea, when Darknight perished beneath the weight of his over-inflated ego.

Heh, I still find the Tenwat deathsights amusing.

Decently new to the whole game so I don't have anything to add in, but reading all your comments got some laughs out of me!

as funny as they are, some of those really take away from immersion, just like a lot of other things. Just a few examples:

- have a shop? throw the merchandise on the floor! shelves wouldn't have been so hard would they?

- "Gnaeus moves his huge bulk to the west with surprising grace." - All is well as long as it's outside. But try to imagine a dragon with (as the description says saucer-sized eyes) move his "huge bulk" through some door? or stand in some room? Makes no sense.

- You strap some wings to your back and are able to fly. Yeah sure. A magical teleport ring to some long dead sorcerers room of magical doors would have been believable. strap on wings on the other hand? nope.

Things like that make it really hard to get lost in a world because so often things just don't make any sense. People realize that consciously or unconsciously and stop believing and stop RPing. Of course you can RP if you really want to. But it takes an effort and you don't get the feeling you destroy the immersion because a) the world destroys that itself with things mentioned above and b) the other players believe it no more than you do and act accordingly.

The atmosphere doesn't invite you to RP to the best of your ability. Instead people are tempted to act as OOCly as they get away with, without ruining their character. - look around, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

But you really can't expect people to act in a believable way and make an effort when neither you nor they really believe in the world.

Reality happens according to rules and we expect fantasy worlds to do the same. The rules can be different but they have to exist. When you disregard them you destroy the fantasy. And when you rely on a lot of people to really do their best and fill it with believable live, that's not a wise thing to do.

To date, my favourite is "Tharos has been liquidated by the Terraformer."

Anyone here remember the tater king? Those were some good deathsights.

I'm going to need to start keeping a diligent watch on my deathsight echoes. I usually don't pay much mind to them, but a lot of these are pretty good. I can't remember if I died a lot in Minia but I am pretty sure that Pixie Queen got me once.

I absolutely love some of the death sights that have been listed.

I would love the ability to customize deathsights, so that when I die people can see what I want them to. Having a death rattle in a deathsight would be great: Bram calls out for his mommy as the life ebbs from his broken body, slain by a black rat. Etc...

I remember in Achaea, long long ago when the first person drank themselves to death. It was sad and kinda tragic, and also funny, but it became their claim to fame. I forget the characters name now but they were on the notable characters list for being the first to do so.

My favorite deathsights were during the first Great Hunt. People dieing to an ordinary butterfly that soon became a swarm only to be replaced by a giant one. Also the horde of starving rats was great. That poor novice

I like it when Baron Vukub kills someone and uses their skull for a chamber pot. Now THAT's funny.

I look forward to eating skullcap if only for the unique deathsights. It's probably because I'm new to the world and used to more repetitive "X has been slain by the might of Y" deathsights from other places, but I really like the unique messages. Especially from denizen deaths, for some reason.

Ever wondered about that different taste in her elixirs? Well I did, then I realized it was those poor poor newbies who chose to sacrifice their flesh and blood.

A cool deathsight was, whoever the Ogre Baron is, killing someone.

I remember when almost all the deathsights were generic, it became much better now. The cool instakills and stuff have specific messages too, kinda like a props to pulling it off.

Was a weird one after I Jitb'ed Lynara in Hashan once, Something about my Jack in the box spitting her head back out, i don't have the log so see her for the details, made me chuckle though

Finchy has been slain by the might of Poetic Justice. <-- Clementius i think.

Rubber Ducky Richard O'Conner has been slain by a lithe desert fox. <-- This one has to be on purpose. Richard O'Conner was the WWII general designated to fight against Rommel a.k.a The Desert Fox in Africa.

So and so was slain by the might of a little girl (or something similar) made me giggle, for a long while.

I always liked the disembowel deathsight, gross and awesome!

There really are a lot of interesting deathsights, the ones involving denizens on both sides are usually the funniest (or those with them on the receiving end of the killing blow). Some of my favourite player deathsights are: killed by cookie, butterfly (normal size) and by some gold sovereigns.

Gotta agree, though. The Gods made up some really awesome ones, too. Great work, deathsight's a defense really worth putting up just to be sure not to miss one of those great pieces.

I always laugh when I see that someone has been headbutted to death by a guard pig.

I'm always amused when someone dies to a sheep, but that's mostly because it happened to me... who'd think the fluffy jerks would have the element of surprise?
